We do provide an option for a custom power script that allows you to override the way screen powering on/off works.
For what else would that make sense? Please provide more context and use-cases so that we can investigate in detail and evaluate how we could do something like this.

Would the webcam be pointed towards the screen and used for correct playback confirmation? Or for something else?

This is a great idea. That will allow you to monitor the performance of not only the Raspbery but also the monitors themselves, which is a real broadcast. It will be convenient to provide a photo and video report. Our company needs this feature.

This is our oldest request, created back in Jan 2016 when we had 0 paying customers (yeap, that is a zero). We wish it was so easy to implement that we would do it during that first year. But the time has come!
On Nov 19th, we are releasing our new playback engine to all users. We had to break up the Player code between the “logic” and the actual playback on screens. It was a requirement so that we can release new features without messing around with the tens of thousands of Players out there.
As soon as this is out of the way, we will be working to support transitions between images. We know that this is an important feature for all of you receiving this message, so we want to provide as much insight as possible.

This is a very good idea. Some RS 232 media panels can be controlled via this port.
