  1. Static Overlay for Playlists

Workflow with Playlists->Layouts->Schedules works great in most use-cases.
To make the engine even more flexible it would be great to have a static overlay choice on the playlist level (so you can have a logo overlay one playlist but not the other for example)

    Thank you for your suggestion!

As always, there is balance between flexibility and ease-of-use. When adding new features, we are constantly mindful of that balance and try to keep the simplicity of the management, while extending capabilities.

Your suggestion, while it makes sense from a functional perspective, would make the layering and structuring the content convoluted. I do not think that we will be heading that way, so I will be marking this idea as “declined” for now, but keep it in mind for the future.

  2. Blank Push (Nightly)

Each Player has "Push again to this Monitor"... Please Add this feature to "Advanced/Timed Events" To allow an automatic scheduled "Force Push".

Reason: For us, most users that update content cannot push to players affected by the changes. Each department does not have its own player, but the department (Workspace) playlist is included in a "Master Playlist" I would like an automated process to push these changes daily.

    Thank you.

You can likely have a single Workspace which contains the Players and the “Master Playlists” assigned to them, and then provide “Publisher” access to all Users from all departments. That would effectively allow them to “Push to Players” on that Workspace.

We have indeed identified this shortcoming and are planning to address it differently. The end result will be the same; that is, clicking “Push to Players” on any Workspace, would push to all Players affected by changes to that Workspace, even if the User does not have any access to Players. That has some technical implications that we are planning to address.

Also, we are planning to provide an option for “Push Later”, so that people can schedule changes on their content without creating a Schedule just for this single change. However, doing automated scheduled pushes is risky, and a wrong way to address your need, so we will…

  3. Pandora or Spotify Integration

Pandora or Spotify integration, where a widget is created with a forward, back, pause/play button and name of song playing. Possible login options for premium members and some way to pick a category?

Unfortunately, Spotify/Pandora is not licensed for business. Pandora Business requires a separate player. Overall, overhead/in-venue music has licensing restrictions and is tricky to provide as an technology provider. Still, we are looking into that!

Allowing the Yodeck Player to upload Videos would create a security issue, since one Player would have access to the CMS.

On the other hand, allowing locally to load a Video and not having it centrally available does not make sense. While we do understand that some sites have limited bandwidth and cannot update through the Internet, it is not possible to do such updates completely offline.

Remember, Yodeck was created for managing several Players, not just a single Player. As such, it does not make sense to provide an offline media loading option. Would be happy to hear more argumentation if we are missing something.

  5. updating process at the back stage

Unfortunately, it is important to keep the updating process as it is. Updating the software is important before starting playback. While we do understand the inconvenience this causes for the first boot, there is a need to keep it there to make sure the player is secure, it does not fail with newer information from the backend, and so on. There are Players that might be 2 years offline and when you plug them in, you want them to update before starting to playback, because our backend is now completely changed.

I am afraid we need to reject this suggestion.

Unfortunately, you will have to export your Keynote presentation as a Powerpoint file. To do that, click on “File” → “Export To” → “Powerpoint”. If you do not care about transitions and animations, it is even faster to export to PDF and upload the PDF instead.

I understand that this is not the easiest option, but, unfortunately, there is currently no way to import a Keynote file into the Powerpoint to convert it.

MHTML does not have wide adoption by browser engines. While it does make sense to upload webpages packaged as a single file, you can do the same on Yodeck using a Custom Widget, where you upload a ZIP file with all required files therein.

For now, I am marking this request as declined, since there are no plans to implement this within the next year.

  8. Shared Schedule through Different Workspaces

If you want to have a shared Schedule, you can use a 3rd Workspace and put the Schedule there. Then, you can add read/write permissions to that 3rd Workspace to Users of the original 2 Workspaces.

Else, you can add a Playlist to the Schedule and then add one Sub-Playlist from each Workspace to that “master” Playlist. Users in each Workspace can edit their sub-playlist and manage it. while the “master” Playlist can be assigned to the Schedule as you would normally do.

If that does not cover your use-case, please provide more info and see if it makes sense. For now, I am marking this suggestions as Declined since it is not in our plans to share stuff among Workspaces.

  11. Option to add media directly to playlists

    Example of my idea:
Customer have 20 stores and each store have two screens. Those two screens have same playlist in one store but every store have own custom playlist total of 20 playlists. When you upload new media and want to add it to 15 stores.

Here comes my idea to select those playlists while upload, instead uploading media first and then adding it manualy to every 15 playlists.

    Example image:

This is now 100% feasible using Tag-based Playlists (available in the “Pro” plan).

    - You create 20 Media Tags, one for each store.
    - You create 20 Tag-based Playlists for each store, and assign this Playlist to the 2 screens of each store.
    - At the moment you upload new Media, you add the Tags you want, so that the new Media uploaded is assigned to the proper stores.

I think this would work just fine. I am closing this suggestion. If you feel that this needs to be further discussed, please post a new suggestion.

You already can go in a Video and change it in place, uploading a new Powerpoint to be converted to video. This is the same for ALL Media types; you can go ahead and re-upload a new file in-place of the old one. Just go to details of the Media in question, click the “Change” link located just below the thumbnail, and upload a new file there.

Since we have not received a response on this request with more details, we consider this as a misunderstanding of how Yodeck works and will be consider it already available. All subscribers to this suggestion, please feel free to respond with any more questions on this.

    why would anyone need this?

Yodeck is in its nature an online service. Support completely offline Players is honestly out of scope. It would create several problems:

    1) The standard Raspberry Pi does not have a real-time clock, it synced time online. Having support for offline players means that we would need to use RTC in order to support any kind of scheduling.

    2) Even if this feature was supported, we would require Users to update their MicroSD cards every month. The Player needs to get online at least once a month, else it will stop playback. This is for billing and licensing reasons.

    3) On Nov 24th 2017 release, we are adding support for 4G/LTE USB dongles. Even if there is no Internet connection available, using a USB dongle will allow for an online Player to work just fine.

    4) if we were to support a offline method,…

  15. Within a Show, play the added playlists one at a time, in succession, then loop forever

Right now it's possible to add multiple playlists to one show. But they all play at once and on-top of eachother.
I would like an option to make the playlists play in succession.
If I add 2 playlists, first play #1, then #2, then loop back to #1.

Right now you can use the "hide playlist" item and manually set the duration. This way you can have them play in "fake succession". But when adding new media or a new playlist to the mix, this involves a lot of math to calculate new total duration and new "hide playlist duration".

Indeed, what you are describing will be available through the sub-playlists item. We are releasing this really soon, so there is no point into also including this.

In any case, this feature might made skip adding another “entity” in the system, but it has implications on the menus of the Show editor and the layers shown on the right of the editor. And, most importantly, it would cause additional feature requests from users that would want to build on top of that.

  16. A cool feature for the Pi Zero W

A cool feature for the Pi Zero W (because it has no Ethernet port) would be a soft Access Point that a phone could connect to with WiFi and browser and set up the Rasp Pi wireless network settings if it can't connect during boot up - I've messed with a Microchip powered IoT device that had a feature like that (via a button) and it was very useful and didn't need a special phone app .

We are already working on a on-screen configuration wizard. Using this tool, you will be able to setup your wifi using a keyboard and mouse. This will make things a lot easier, as all units are connected to a screen and for sure you can hook up a keyboard on-site.

If this is released (probably with an image update within August 2017), this proposed feature will not be so useful.

    Thank for your suggestion though!

  17. Bluetooth Beacon Widget

Create a Bluetooth Beacon Widget. Utilizing the Bluetooth chip in the Raspberry Pi 3, create a widget that allows a user to enter a desired web URL/beacon that gets broadcast to prospective customers mobile devices that are in range of the Yodeck player. This would allow for additional advertising and engagement with customers.

As already mentioned in the comments, you can already use a Web Page for this. this week (Apr 12th) we area releasing support for Chromium, so it might work even better.

We will not be adding this as a separate Media type. Instead, we will provide extensive how-to’s on several services (like Google Slides) that make sense to be used in Yodeck.

    Feel free to debate!

  19. VESA Case

I find it really strange that these Yodeck Playboxes don't come in a VESA mount case.

This is for digital signage and 99% of customer's will want to mount their Pi onto the back of their display.

I'm having to find other ways of mounting it onto the TV such as taping it on or cable tie.

I could even be better off buying a VESA case for £4 and just swapping cases so I can mount it onto the back of the display.

A VESA case has not being requested much. Actually, most users mount their screens using the VESA mount holes, so you can’t actually use it for mounting the Player.

We will not be looking for a VESA mount in the near future, so I am closing this now. If the idea gets more supporters, we could re-open it.

  20. Organizing and Replacing Monitors

Would love to see a way to organize the dashboards within the Monitors section.
When adding the monitors, I needed to remove 1 from our 1st Floor. When adding it back into the list, it is now at the bottom of the list, and not grouped with the rest of our 1st Floor dashboards.
Also it seems that I needed to create a new Monitor when replacing a Raspberry Pi.
