  1. Create a widget store

I've developed a couple of widgets, and more will no doubt follow. It would be great to have somewhere to share them - either free or for a nominal charge, like the appstores for iPhone/android/the other one.

  2. API to connect to your subscription / Account / Management

Would be nice to have API access to your account in different ways.

    Examples:

Get - Get access to your account data & configurations. Connect to the API to get configurations & information of your players.

POST - Send show commands to the API. to change between shows on different players.

Longshot.. But would be nice :p

Our whole backend (server) provides an RESTful HTTP API. This is currently used only by our UI, the User Interface that our users see on their screen.

This API needs to be documented and polished up, but it is (more or less) already usable for special purposes. We will just provide you with a access token.

We are planning to release a fully documented API spec within Q2-2017.

  3. New widgets

I would like to see more widgets. A better time widget. A better weather widget. I would like to add a wether cam widget.

  4. Content triggering

    Hello,

It will be nice to be able to trigger content on demand via an external physical source like a USB button or via a UDP command form a mobile app. Features like play media on demand or be able to control playback features.

We are planning to provide trigger support within 2020.

We are now in the process of restructuring our rendering engine in order to allow several features to be implemented. One of these features is triggers. We are planning to initially support UDP, TCP/HTTP, GPIO events, and then support keyboard/mouse events.

[Draft Specs follow:] Triggers will be available as a different menu item, in order to manage, set them up, test them, and so on. After setting them up, Users will be able to use them in Playlists, e.g. to skip a Media (or Subplaylist) entry, jump to specific Media (or Subplaylist) entry, and so on.

  5. Widget ideas

Social Media Wall widgets for all the main social media sites will be key...even better, a social media feed aggregator!! I'd like a google calendar widget...a free form static box text widget would be great as well.

  6. Provide a Player App for Android (for compatible Smart TVs, TV Boxes, Tablets and Smartphones)

Yodeck currently works only on the Raspberry Pi hardware platform. It would be great to have Yodeck on Android-powered devices.

We do plan to provide a Yodeck Player app for Android. As you may understand, this requires a lot of effort. So, it might take several months until it gets completed. We target the end of 2017 for a first version, but it may well be 2018 until it gets released.

  7. Add the ability to specify a specific number of days in a schedule.

    Building on : http://support.yodeck.com/forums/301815-general/suggestions/13294017-weekday-filter
we would like it to be possible to specify a specific number of days for the "Every" field (recurrence).
Many restaurants use a menu that cycles either weekly, biweekly, triweekly, etc. (In most cases here we have a tri-weekly menu rotation). What would be great in the scheduler is to be able to schedule a show “Every Monday” or to repeat “Every 3rd Monday” for example. Microsoft Task Scheduler in Windows is an example of how this would work.

  10. Screen sharing

I would be great if the yodeck device would also support screen mirroring (miracast, widi, airplay)? Use case: have signage in meeting rooms (when people come in, are not projecting,...), but as soon as the meeting starts: be able to mirror laptop screens (all brands) for regular meetings too. Would be a killer feature I believe!

It would be difficult to support protocols like that. Currently, the Raspberry Pi supports 1080p video, so you would lose 4K resolution from your laptop. Also, the playback might induce a delay which might not be acceptable. Instead, we are considering to investigate more detailed HDMI-CEC support. We use CEC for turning the screen on and off, but it might be possible to use it to a) detect that another HDMI port was just connected, b) be able to interact with the remote, c) be able to automatically change inputs. This might make more options possible.

I am leaving this feature as “Accepted”, because the need is there and is correct, but the implementation for servicing this need might be different than the one described. If you think otherwise, feel free to comment!

  11. Multiple WiFi Profiles

It would be great if we could configure multiple wifi profiles on the device and set priority. This way it could connect to a "Primary WiFi" (ideally the customers) but if it can't and a tech is on site, have it connect to their hotspot as a backup and have it preprogrammed (I.e. if you can't connect to customer wifi, connect to a failover wifi profile we can configure through the portal.) Typically we provision the device before it goes out to customer this way in theory it's plug and play if they provide us with the correct wifi info…

  13. Allow starting a show based on an event

Would like to have a display set up in a waiting room playing a standard general show. But, when a new client arrives would like to "push a button" and have a more detailed show played. It could simply be a predefined named show and GPIO pin to initiate it. Schedule could be set to "Manual".

  14. Google calendar data source

Google Calendar entries for a number of days (from current day only - or possibly current half-day only).
To be shown as a list of 1 or more scrolling (if necessary) entries or as a ticker. With configurable display elements date, time, title, description, where. Also configurable separators (like your ticker).
Example 1: I would use it for a "Welcome" list of today's (or morning/afternoon) visitors.
Example 2: Also for a list of upcoming exhibitions.
Using google as a source of times events allows anyone with access to that the ability to make Yodeck entries without getting into your quite…

  15. Yodeck Screensaver for MacOS and Windows

For companies that uses Yodeck for internal information across different regions and offices, why not extend the reach by having a screen saver that have the option to display selected playlists?

By doing this we could push information directly to each employers screen. Obviously the content of these playlist needs to be public information. But still, would be an awesome functionality to have.. And will extend the reach of Yodeck, especially now when most are working from home.

  16. Manage email alerts on a per player basis

I have a testbench yodeck player that may not be online 24/7 (sits on my desk to test when needed). It would be nice to be able to turn off offline alerts for specific players, like my testbench player, but keep other player's alerts on.

This makes 100% sense, and there are many cases. To name a few:

    - “on-off” test players
    - “known problems”, like a Player that is offline and it is actually OK to be so, e.g. due to known internet issue at the installation site
    - sites where the power to the Player is cut off every night

We are planning to support the option to mark an offline Player as “OK” until a given date or until it comes back online, so that notifications and stats are kept clean.

Concerning on-off Players, we could provide an option for customizing the timeout per Player for sending an email (currently fixed at 5 hours and 24 hours). An even more complex option would be to use a Schedule for determining when a Player should be online, but I think this would be overly complex and would not provide any significant advantage over…

  18. Email alert on high temp readings

I recently discovered what a thermometer icon in the upper right hand corner meant. As my screens are in multiple locations, I was unaware that a device was experiencing a temperature threshold. This is not apparent in the GUI at all.

Can this alert email the administrators?
Can this reading be made available in the online GUI?

First, keep in mind that this icon indicates that the device is overheated so it is being throttled down (lowering performance) in order to prevent the temperature from rising. This has a performance hit, but it does not affect reliability severely. So, we do not consider it a critical issue. You have “hot” devices running, and they will work fine throttled.

The device temperature is available in the “Status” tab in the Monitor details of the Yodeck portal, so it is actually available in the UI.

It does make some sense to warn the user, since the overheating can be managed so that there is no performance hit. We are planning to create a kind of message centre inside the app to provide important messages to Users, which could include some device status alerts. I am marking this suggestion as “Accepted” and we will investigate when this message center is…

  19. Improved Widgets & Widget Themes

    Improved Widgets.

I'd like to see the widgets be developed with a little more depth. They are nice, but sometimes they don't really work the way one would expect them to. Not a deal-breaker, but it would be nice to have really polished options when it comes to widgets.

We are in the process of building an internal design team that will help with the look and feel of Widgets. We are planning to build something like “themes” so that Widgets can adhere to specific fonts, styles, etc, so that adding multiple Widgets will have some consistency.

  20. Playlist/Shows Transitions

Moving from One Playlist to another in a schedule is not very clean right now. If the system can either pre-load the next playlist so that it behaves like a new clip, or hold a pre-defined slide so that the screen does not go black between changes.

We have started working on this! Content transitions, either when pushing updated content or when changing content due to scheduling, will be dynamically loading, so content won’t go through that balck screen!

    Stay tuned!
